Richard is survived by the two loves of his life, his wife, Sophie Hayes, and four-legged daughter, Sissy; his daughter, Zudie Poole Gardner (Lonnie); his grandchildren, Crystal Allen (Jeff), Dewayne Gardner (Julia), and Josh Poole (Lindsay); his great-grandchildren, Kevin Biggie, Angela, Amber, and Adalynn Gardner, Nicole and Melissa Previtte, Jaden and Jeremiah Griggs, J.J. Poole, and Aiyana Norcross; and his great-great-grandchildren, Zayden Acevedo, Cheyenne, Gracelynn, and Valerie Joy.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Ronnie and Billy Poole, and his grandson, J.D. Griggs.

Richard married the love of his life, Sophie Hayes on August 24, 1996. He spent his life working hard, helping others, enjoying, and loving every moment with family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

A visitation for Richard will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
