Richard was principle of Richad Rice Architects, best known in the hotel and country club sector. Richard is survived by his husband, Richard W. Gold and siblings W. Carter, Rice, May Winborne Rice, and David Rice.
Donations can be made to the Rice/Gold Universal Design Award of NC State Architecture School where he received his BA. He also received an MA and MBA from Harvard.
He was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh is serving the Rice family.
