Ruby Kennedy Finch

Ruby Lee Kennedy Finch, age 92, passed away on May 23, 2024, as a result of a serious stroke. She was a former resident of Raleigh, NC, where she lived with her husband and 3 children for over 40 years before moving to Wilmington in 2012 to be closer to her daughter.

Ruby was born January 26, 1932 in Scranton, SC where she lived until she graduated from high school. She later moved to Wilson NC where she met her future husband, Ernest. They were married on December 24, 1952. In 1954, they moved to New Bern where they lived for 10 years before moving to Raleigh.

Ruby is survived by her three children, Elaine Finch Wingate (Dan) of Sneads Ferry, NC; Kenneth Alan Finch (Dorothy) of Irmo, SC, and Ernest Murray Finch (Renee) of Hopewell Junction, NY. She leaves 7 grandchildren; Hannah Finch of Arvada, Colorado; Carter Finch (Savannah) of Carlton, GA; Aaron (Jackie) stationed in Vicenza, Italy; Mary Finch of Staunton, VA, Emily Finch of Victoria, British Columbia, Paul Finch of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Joshua Wingate (Rebecca) of Fuquay Varina, NC; one great grandson, Zachary Wingate of Tillamook, Oregon and one great granddaughter, Maple Wingate, of Fuquay Varina; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Ernest Strickland Finch; her parents, Henry and Maybelle Kennedy, three sisters, Vera Collins, Clara Annette Earp, Annie Laura Duke; 4 brothers, Clifton Kennedy, G. W. Kennedy, Henry Leon Kennedy, Jr., Walter Kennedy, and one nephew Stephen Collins.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27612.
