

With profound sadness, we mourn the passing of Samson Demissie Wondafrash, 58, of Raleigh, North Carolina, who departed this life on February 9th, 2025, after an ailing sickness. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend whose kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on the lives of many.
Samson was born on July 7, 1966, in Harar, Ethiopia, to Ato Demissie Wondafrash and Weyzero Aselefech Asfaw. From an early age, he displayed a passion for learning and a deep sense of responsibility to those around him. He attended Harar Medhane Alem Comprehensive Secondary School, where he excelled in his studies and formed lifelong friendships. Seeking greater opportunities, Samson pursued higher education in the United States, enrolling at North Carolina A&T State University.
In 1997, Samson married his teenage sweetheart, Genet Mengiste Asfaw, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Their union was built on love, respect, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they created a warm and loving home, raising two wonderful children, Abigail Samson and Noah Samson, whom he cherished dearly. As a husband and father, Samson was devoted, always putting his family’s well-being above all else. His guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love will forever remain in their hearts. Samson had a rare gift—his kindness knew no bounds. He was a beacon of support for many, both in Ethiopia and in North Carolina. As a mentor and friend, he played an instrumental role in helping fellow immigrants find their footing in the U.S., offering guidance, encouragement, and resources to ease their transition.
Beyond his generosity, Samson will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor. He had an incredible ability to bring laughter into any room, using his wit and charm to forge deep and lasting connections with friends and family. His laughter was contagious, his stories unforgettable, and his spirit uplifting.
Samson’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and selflessness. He lived a life of purpose, touching hearts and making a difference in the lives of those around him. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the countless lives he has impacted.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Genet Mengiste Asfaw; his children, Abigail Samson and Noah Samson; his extended family in Ethiopia and the United States; and numerous friends who were blessed to know him.
Samson Demissie Wondafrash will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
A funeral service for Samson was held Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:00am in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, burial followed in Raleigh Memorial Park.
