Shirley Marian Dennis

Shirley Marian Dennis, age 100, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2019. Born on February 19, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Alma Gruschow Henry. She was predeceased by husband Raymond and siblings Jeanne, William, Barbara, Sally and Pat.

She is lovingly remembered by her three sons: Tom, Jack and wife Sue, and Dan and wife Sophie. Shirley is also survived by her grandchildren Denise, Kimberly, Coral, Eric, Sierra and Marie as well as great-grandchildren Aurora, Tristan, Georgia Ray, Sawyer and Forest.

Shirley grew up in Detroit and graduated from Southeastern High School. She married Ray Dennis of Dearborn on May 31, 1947 and lived in Dearborn until moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2013. Shirley loved music and the arts and attended many concerts and plays over the years with family and friends.

She made friends easily and had one or two very close ones wherever she lived. Shirley enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to have been able to visit Spain and England with Ray and also visit her family around the US. Above all else, she was devoted to her family and was happiest just knowing that they were all happy and successful. She will be remembered by everyone who knew her for her smile and ability to laugh.
