Born on January 28, 1935, in Mooresville, North Carolina, Shirley was the daughter of the late Jess and Helen Turner. She graduated from Mooresville High School in 1953 and began a lifelong legacy defined by kindness, resilience, giving and unwavering dedication to her family.
At just 16 years old, Shirley met the love of her life, Gene Walser, at a roller-skating rink. Their love story was one of deep commitment and joy. The couple married soon after and made their home in Greensboro, North Carolina, where they raised their family and shared more than six decades of life together.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Eugene “Gene” Walser, by her parents and by her siblings—brothers Harvey, Bobby, and Larry, and sister Phyllis Turner.
She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, who were a constant source of pride and joy: Mark and Susan Walser, David Walser, and Dan and Laura Walser. She also leaves behind eight loving grandchildren: Lauren and Kourosh Neshat, Lisa and Will Pridgen, Jennifer and Tony Lindemann, Kristin and Cory Hinton, Melissa and Jeremy Cook, Daniel and Caroline Walser, Erik and Elizabeth Walser, and Ryan Walser; as well as ten treasured great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to her final years.
A private family memorial service to honor Shirley’s life will be held on July 18th.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Shirley’s memory to Amedisys Hospice of Raleigh, whose compassion and care provided great comfort in her final days. Amedisys Hospice can receive mailed donations at 220 New Fidelity Court, Garner, NC, 27529.
