Steina Marion Lyons De Andrade, 65, passed away peacefully with family at her side on April 3, 2016 after a dauntless 5-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Born on March 11, 1951 in Norfolk, England, to Molly Lyons and the late William Lyons, she was the eldest of four children. Steina moved to New York at the age of nineteen and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a master’s in International Affairs and Economics from Columbia University, as well as a certificate in Interior Design from Parsons.
Steina married Armando De Andrade in 1976 and two years later gave birth to her first child, Marcello. The family moved to São Paulo, Brazil in 1979 where her next two children, Andrew and Paul, were born, before returning to New York in 1986. Upon returning to the United States, Steina began her real estate career at Houlihan Lawrence in Chappaqua, NY and, shortly after, had her youngest child, Victoria. In 1996 the family relocated to Raleigh, where she continued her real estate career, but with Howard Perry & Walston.
Steina was a driven and accomplished realtor and built a reputation for herself as one of Raleigh’s top real estate agents at Coldwell Banker HPW. She was a member of many professional organizations, including the Board of Directors for Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors, Top Producer’s Council and the Triangle International Council of Realtors. Steina was also an active member of service organizations such as the Realtor Foundation of Wake County, Junior League, and Assistance League of the Triangle Area. She enjoyed being active in her community and attended the Sheffield Manor and Wakefield Book Clubs and meetings of the Daughters of the British Empire.
An avid traveler with equally adventurous children, Steina visited countries throughout the world. She began to fulfill her dream of traveling the globe during her honeymoon, when she and Armando visited seven countries. She visited her children while they lived abroad in China, Italy and Peru, explored Europe on road trips with her sister, and took numerous vacations with her best friend and favorite travel companion, Linda.
Steina had a powerful presence and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Marcello, Andrew, Paul and Victoria; by her granddaughter, Molly; by her mother, Molly; by her siblings, Janet, William, and Anthony; and by all of the friends she made throughout her life and career.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 4 PM, at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue). As this will be a joyful celebration please wear colorful clothing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Realtor Foundation of Wake County (a local charity supporting the homeless and others in need), checks payable to Realtor Foundation of Wake County - 111 Realtors Way - Cary, NC 27513.
