Sue was the heart of our family. Born on March 11, 1945, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Sue moved with her family to Alcoa, TN where her father was a rising executive at ALCOA. The oldest of four girls, she was ten years old when her father passed away suddenly. Her dear mother Bet moved the girls back to her hometown of Badin, NC where they could be closer to family. She raised her girls while working full time, never remarrying. From Bet, Sue learned responsibility, toughness and family values, which carried throughout her life.
Sue spent the rest of her childhood in Badin and excelled as a high school basketball star. She moved to Raleigh, where she attended Peace College, later married the love of her life, Tom, and became a loving and devoted mother. Sue had a great love and natural talent for the game of golf. She had multiple holes in one, was a two-time North Ridge Country Club Ladies Champion and once held the ladies record on the Oaks course.
She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Tom, daughters Kimberly Miles and Ashley Honeycutt (Tony), granddaughters (Avery, Allison and Emma), her two sisters (Terrie Preslar and Dede Feldman), three grand-dogs and many other cherished family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Dewey, mother Betty Frazier Dewey and sister Dorothy Elizabeth “Cholly” Dewey.
Her beautiful smile and genuine kindness will be truly missed.
A sincere thank you to our wonderful caregivers for the love and compassion toward Sue and our family.
A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
