Sueann Foutch Pugh passed away tragically in an automobile accident November 29, 2025 at the age of 74. She was born in Centralia, Illinois on March 11,1951 and attended Illinois State University, graduating with a degree in Special Education. She taught in the Milwaukee School System until relocating to Raleigh in October 1988 with her husband, Mark. Here she worked many years supporting people with disabilities. Throughout her career she led with patience, kindness and integrity and with an unwavering belief in each person’s potential. In every position she held, the common thread that made it uniquely Sueann was that the jobs she chose, and shined in, centered on helping others.
Sueann carried a peaceful strength that made every person she met feel seen, understood, and valued. Her humor was bright and honest, her wisdom always gentle, and her belief in the goodness of others made the world feel softer and more hopeful. She was our loyal cheerleader, believing in us while also understanding when we didn’t have it all together. She was vibrant and witty, with a warmth that drew people toward her, and she brought joy, clarity and grace into every space she entered. Sueann made life better just by being in it, and her absence leaves a space felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sueann enjoyed yoga, painting, reading, and traveling. She found joy in nature as a bird enthusiast and lifelong animal lover. She was also a talented author, recently publishing her first novel, Road Trip to Miracles. Her curiosity, creativity, and love of learning enriched her life and the lives she touched. Her light will continue to shine through the people she loved and the countless lives she lifted. May we honor her by living with the same grace, kindness, and open heartedness she offered so freely.
Sueann is preceded in death by her parents, Hilda Marie Foutch and Burrell Edgar Foutch, and her cherished family of kitties. She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Mark Pugh and their cat, Rocky. She will be greatly missed by her extended family and loyal band of friends and coworkers from all over the country.
A reception in Sueann’s honor will be held Friday December 12, 2025 from 3-6pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh NC 27612.
In lieu of flowers, please remember Sueann with a contribution to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane Raleigh NC 27603-6075. https://spcawake.org/
