Born on August 2, 1962, in Chungju, South Korea, Sung was the son of the late Park Ok Ja. As a young adult, he honorably served in the South Korean military before marrying the love of his life, Soon Ae Woo, in 1989. Shortly after marriage, they immigrated to the United States, embracing new opportunities while cherishing their Korean heritage. Having lived in both Houston, Texas, and Raleigh, North Carolina, Sung deeply appreciated the warmth and hospitality of the South.
Sung was an active and well-loved member of the Raleigh community. As a member of Hanmaum Church of Durham, he found strength in his faith. He had a passion for golf, a love for travel, and an unmatched ability to fix anything—from cars to home projects, embodying his lifelong “I can do it” spirit.
Above all, Sung was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Soon Ae Kim, and their three sons: Daniel Kim, Richard Kim and his wife, Katie, and Bryan Kim, all of whom reside in Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the service from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the reception room at Mitchell Funeral Home.
Sung will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, perseverance, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
