Dr. Guth was born on June 30, 1918, in Egypt, PA. Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Guth and his wife, Joyce, of Saint Charles, MO and Steven Guth of Raleigh, NC; daughter-in-law, Elaine Guth of Falls Church, VA; grandchildren, Brian Guth and his wife, Rebecca of St. Louis, MO, Kristen Guth of Los Angeles, CA, and Susan Guth of New York, NY and her fiancé Patrick Melton of Wilmington, NC.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Dorothea (Wendt) Guth and his parents; a son, David Guth; a grandson, Matthew Guth; two brothers and one sister.
Dr. Guth graduated from Kutztown University with a degree in Fine Arts. He also completed post graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania earning a Doctorate of Education.
He taught Industrial Arts at Marple Newtown School District, PA and later became Superintendent of Industrial Arts Education in the Philadelphia, PA school district. He moved to Raleigh, NC in 1966 to become State Superintendent of Industrial Arts for the State of North Carolina. He held that position until his retirement in 1980.
