I have known the Langston’s since they worked at Ligon jr high school. Vann had to administer corporal punishment to me on one occasion. 
I have been Vanns barber on and off since 1988. 
He was a client, a friend and mentor. He will be remembered by literally thousands of students. 
I miss him greatly and will miss our political conversations.

I was hired to teach English, Creative Writing and Photography at Millbrook high school in 1981 by Vann Langston.   Vann, our principal, was a wonderful, supporter for all the teachers, students and athletes.  He created a positive, friendly environment and he was always encouraging everyone.  I was so privileged to teach at Millbrook while Vann was there.  He will be greatly missed.

Thoughts and prayers for Jody and the Langston family. Vann was always the voice of reason and confidence to so many. He will surely be missed.

Hard to believe when I was 14, he was only 29.  We thought he was old!   My favorite memory of him was when I got sent to the Principal’s Office  at Ligon Jr. Circa 1973.   After he doled out my much deserved punishment, he wrote my note, “Steve Buckingham (my brother) to class.”   😆 I said to myself, “I’m obviously not the first family member to have had a visit here.”  I was too immature at that time to appreciate Mr . Vann Langston, but with the passage of time and maturity, I appreciate his dedication to those of us that were less than deserving, but did it for the betterment of my future .  Godspeed Victor Vann.

Dearest Jody, my heart aches after  learning of Vann’s passing yesterday. I have always felt the privilege of not only working with Vann but also having a beautiful friendship with both of you. Vann’s impact on my career and life was a blessing in countless ways. My memories of him come with so much thanksgiving.   

I wish I had the words to make this less difficult for you, but nothing I say can do that because  the only one who can heal a broken heart is the One  who created it.  May Vann rest in perfect peace!

Jody, I am so sorry for your loss—a true loss to our community and his education peers. I will never forget your and Vann’s sincere support for me during my time on the School Board. The kindness and generosity you both showed me will always mean the world to me. I will always remember him as a gracious and brilliant man. May his memory be ever eternal!

Vann was a tremendous blessing to our Sunday School class.  I joined in 2019 and was always interested in Vann's take on the lesson and how it impacted us each day.  He was kind and thoughtful and will be sorely missed.

I have known Van for many years as a classmate at Henderson High School class of 1963.  The many accomplishments I have read sent by his friends and students is not surprising.  Vann was a leader early in our class and we all knew he was destined to make a difference in his life. As voted Most Intelligence in our class, he has accomplished unbelievable heights in the field of education.  It has been a pleasure to have grownup with him as a classmate and call him a friend.  My prayers are with Jody, his sons and family.

I did not have the good fortune of knowing  Van as a student but got to know him as a neighbor..  Such a sterling man with so many accomplishments in his lifetime and a legend in the  Wake County Schools he served..  He was one of a kind  and they threw away the mold after him..   I am sure if he was still serving Wake County School System he would bring order and enlightenment to his responsibilities.  I will miss him as he was an inspiration to me as well as others.

I (along with my brother, David) was also a student at Ligon Junior High School when Mr. Langston was the Assistant Principal. He contributed greatly to the Wake County System even after his time at Ligon and will be missed by the community. But think about the positive impact he had on the generations of students. faculty, and staff who walked the halls of Ligon, Millbrook, etc during his tenure as an administrator in the public school system.

Vann was a special person, and a strong leader at NCRGEA.  His focus was always positive, always strategic, always personable.  I enjoyed our sharing of ideas and strategies.  It’s a shock to lose him, and I’m thankful we were able to serve together.

Mr Langston was assistant principal at Ligon Junior High when I was a student there and I got to know him further when I came back to Raleigh to work.  He was a well regarded person in the Wake County Public School system, and I appreciate and have great respect for what he did when he was at Ligon Junior High when I was there.  My sympathy goes out to Mrs Langston.

Vann Langston was a superior educator/administrator and class human being. His career was parallel to my career and I was proud to call him my friend.  He knew the value of an efficient teacher and a quality school  administrator if students were expected to excel in the classroom.  His legacy can be found in the many successful young people who have become wonderful citizens and contributors to society.  Our world has become a little dimmer without his presence but what a well lived life. I send my condolences to Jodie and the family as they attempt to cope with this tremendous loss.

I was saddened to hear about  
Vann’s passing .  He was an excellent Principal and was well-liked by the faculty and students.  He will especially be missed by the “education community “ in Wake County.

I have known Vann since 1968.  We worked together at Carroll and then at Ligon.  The Ligon teaching experience was one of the highlights of my life.  A band of us often dined at Swains Steak house.  Vann and I have kept in touch through the years; often meeting at NoFo recently.  Vann was the consummate educator, leader, gentleman, and friend.  I loved him dearly.  Sending blessings to Jodie and boys.  “Goodnight, sweet prince, goodnight; may bands of angels speed your flight.”

I’m so sorry for your loss. Mr Langston was  a very nice man, he was  the principal at Millbrook High School when I graduated in 1983. I thought of him often. May you rest in peace Mr Langston. 
His name will always be on my high school Diploma.

I participated in the state retiree association with Vann. He served as president and was a great leader for our organization. He would often call me after a zoom call we had been on and thanked me for my contributions. He was always kind, cheerful and encouraging.

I pray that his family will receive God's peace and comfort at this difficult me.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Vann on the NCRGEA. He was a wonderful and kind person. He taught me a lot as I acclimated to the committees that we served on.
