Vic Cotto, age 67, of Durham, passed away on January 12, 2020. Vic was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, and has lived most of his life in North Carolina. He proudly served in the Unites States Air Force. He went on to attend and graduate from UNC, becoming a Tarheel for life who was “proud of the blue”. After college, Vic began working for Foister’s camera store in Chapel Hill. From there he went on to open his own photography studio, first in Durham, then in Raleigh. Following that, Vic put his skills to test when he went to work as an Information and Communications Specialist for the State of North Carolina, where he worked until his passing.
Vic was a charismatic and smooth man who always had a mellow and relaxed demeanor. He was a phenomenal artist, photographer and musician. Vic was also an avid golfer in his down time. He was a loyal friend to many, and a wonderful and loving son, brother and uncle to his family. Vic was very proud of his heritage as a Puerto Rican. He always boasted how great the food was and often gave “cooking” lessons to his friends. He will be missed greatly by many.
Vic is survived by his sisters, Lyssette Gibbons and her husband, Brian, Dianne-marie Cotto, and Yolanda Cotto; brother, Dennis Cotto and his wife, Kim; nieces and nephews, Tamika, Liana, Ashlie-marie, Dennis, Mathieu, Gabrielle and Alexis; great nephew and niece, Dylan and Sophia; and his beloved dog, Maxx. Vic was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Carmen Ines.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday, January 18 from 1:00-3:00pm at the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. Following the gathering, the family invites guests next door to Mitchell Funeral Home for a reception.
