

Violet Dawson Poole, affectionately known as “GiGi”, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the Oaks of Mayview Nursing Care in Raleigh. Born on October 10, 1915 in Jacksonville, NC; she was the daughter of the late Edna Deal Dawson and Frank Cyrus Dawson. She graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1933. She worked in Rocky Mount Mills during WWII and later moved to Wilmington where she met her husband, Carl Poole. They began their marriage in Charleston, SC and finally settled in Hampton, VA. There she enjoyed a 20-year career at the Old Point National Bank.
She spent her retirement years in Raleigh, NC at Independence Village and then at the Heritage, and was a member of Highland United Methodist Church.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Conway Poole; sisters, Daisy Moore, Nina Rowland and Jessie Nye; brothers, Haywood, Warren, Colin and Dayton Dawson.
She is survived by her daughter, Winifred Conroy, of Raleigh; sisters, Elma Peaches and Charlotte Lane; grandsons, Scott Willard and wife Susan and David Willard and wife Shelly; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Morgan, Claire and Connor.
Violet loved spending time with her family and spent many happy hours reminiscing about her childhood in Jacksonville and her loving relationship with her siblings. All who knew her loved her and enjoyed her enthusiasm, her sense of humor and her kind loving spirit.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2 pm at Brookdale North Raleigh – 1200 Carlos Drive – Raleigh, NC 27609.
