

Sue Gunkle, 68, loving wife, mother and grandmother was called home to be with her heavenly father on Monday, March 12th. She went peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle. Sue was known for her laugh, tenacity and enthusiasm and will be missed by all who knew her.
Born into a coal mining family in Charleston, WV, she always wanted more for her children. After meeting her soul mate Jack and getting married in 1974, they moved the family after her late husband Jack was transferred to Raleigh in 1981. Sue retired from GlaxoSmithKline in 2008 and then retired from King Pharmaceutical in 2011.
Sue loved traveling with Jack and spending time with her family. Her greatest achievements in life were matched only by her humble loving and devoted spirit. She was kind, giving and enjoyed life. She was a devoted Christian woman, a member of Midway Baptist, who always had a smile on her face and was always there to help others.
Preceded in death by her parents and loving husband Jack of 37 yrs.; she leaves to cherish her memory son John David of Bentonville, AR, daughter Luwannah Kaye of Raleigh, daughter Lora Lea of Raleigh, son Charles Allan and wife Minnie of Colfax, WA and son William Michael and wife Laura of Houston, TX; granddaughters Ashley Elizabeth of Raleigh and Dominique of Apex; grandsons David of Apex, Nathan of Colfax, WA and Michael of Houston.
Family will receive friends Thursday March 15 from 6-8pm at Mitchell Funeral Home 7209 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh. Funeral will be held Friday March 16 at 11am at Raleigh Memorial Park Chapel 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh with internment to follow the service.
