

William Harrison Baird, 99, of Raleigh, died February 6, 2011. William (Bill) was a native of Petersburg, Virginia and was born on March 22, 1911. He was the son of the late Nathanial Harrison Baird and Ruth Seay Baird. On December 16, 1933, William married Jane Page Andrews, also of Petersburg, who predeceased him January 9, 2000. William and Jane moved to Raleigh in 1939 where they raised their three sons William L., Carlton A., and Robert (Bob) L. Baird who survive him. William was employed with Dillon Supply Co. in Raleigh until his retirement in 1976. William enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping at Lake Gaston; he also enjoyed reminiscing about antique cars.
Surviving family include Carlton A. Baird and wife Betty Jane of Pittsboro, NC, and Robert L. Baird and wife Mary Jo of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is also survived by the following grandchildren: Anna Baird Choi and husband Hunt of Raleigh, NC; Robert L. Baird, Jr. and wife Deborah of Melbourne, FL; Rose Marie Bates and husband Louis of Columbia, SC; and William P. Baird and wife Laura of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren including Caswell Harrison and Jane Louise Choi of Raleigh, NC: Zachary Alexander, Laura Marie, and Adam Lander Baird of Melbourne, FL; Jasmine Marie and Jessica Michelle Baird of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by a brother, The Rev. Thomas L. Baird of Colonial Heights, VA.
William spent his last few years at Spring Arbor and Raleigh Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Raleigh. The family would like to extend its thanks to everyone at these facilities for the excellent care provided to William.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St, Raleigh, NC 27605.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Wednesday, February 9th at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607.
The entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
