

William “Bill” Huskins, Sr. died peacefully on November 27, 2025 in Raleigh, NC at 100 years old. He was born to Sam and Pearle Huskins on October 7, 1925 in his beloved mountain town of Burnsville, NC.
Bill joined the Army Signal Corps before serving in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed at the Naval Air Force Base in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 1945. He entered NASCAR in its inaugural year of 1948 as the #18 driver, before joining the N.C. Highway Patrol in 1951, where he retired as a Lieutenant after 34 years of service.
As Highway Patrol Technical Sergeant, he was awarded first prize for his feature-length film about traffic safety at the 1971 International Film Festival of New York. Bill lived life to the fullest; he was a hard worker, a devoted husband, and a loving father.
He met his wife, Harriet, at the Highway Patrol Headquarters in Raleigh, and they were married for 52 years before she passed away in 2021. He is preceded in death by his three siblings, and is survived by three children and five grandchildren. Bill touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family received friends on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park. Funeral Services began at 2:00 pm in the Mausoleum Chapel, with interment to follow.
