

William Charles Dodd, 70, passed away on April 6, 2016 after a two year battle with colon cancer. Charlie was born in Windsor, NC but moved to Raleigh in 1947. He was the only child of the late Nathaniel and Edna Dodd. He attended Raleigh public schools and graduated from Needham Broughton High School in 1963. He graduated from East Carolina in 1967 with a degree in Accounting.
He served three years in the US Army including one tour in Vietnam. It was there that he was promoted to SSGT and was also awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
Charlie spent his career in various accounting positions until he began his own firm, Stonehenge Tax Service. He joined Jackson Hewitt Tax Service in 1987, first as a part time preparer and then in 1993 as an owner. When the business was sold in 2005, he and his business partners had grown the business to 13 franchise territories with 22 offices.
Charlie is survived by his wife Adelyn “Ivey” Dodd, sons Christopher Dodd of Cary and Lee Williamson, wife Anna, grandson Franek, of Boston, MA; daughter Laura Kirkpatrick and husband Dennis of Knightdale. He will also be greatly missed by his fur buddy, Dusty.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Jay Minnick at Pleasant Grove UMC on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 10 am followed by interment at Raleigh Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home on Glenwood Avenue on Friday evening from 6-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Pleasant Grove UMC – 4415 Pleasant Grove Church Road – Raleigh, NC 27613 or to a charity of one’s choice.
