Zelda Grey Byrd Barefoot, 79, peacefully passed away on June 26, 2011 at her residence. She was born on August 3, 1931 in Harnett Co., NC to her parents the late Rev. Martin Lister Byrd and Lola Ann Ryals Byrd.
Zelda graduated from Buie's Creek High School and worked as an administrator in the insurance industry for many years. In 1953, on Easter Sunday, she married the love of her life, Shelton L. Barefoot. Zelda and Shelton were founding members of the North Haven Church. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Zelda is survived by her loving husband, Shelton; her dear brothers Martin Davis Byrd and his wife Edna, of Dunn NC and Willie Morrison Byrd, of Wytheville, VA. She will also be missed by several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as several nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, from 7:00-9:00 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue., Raleigh. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday June 29, North Haven Church, 6620 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Newton Grove, NC.
