He was born September 10, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, to parents John Irving and Alyce Elinor (Warner) Hastings. Bruce proudly served his country as a veteran of the US Navy. He later served his community as a member of the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department, achieving the rank of Chief. Bruce was a hardworking diesel mechanic with Miller Transfer and Rigging in Edinburg.
On November 28, 1959, he married his beloved wife Janet. They enjoyed traveling and went on many adventures together. They were members of the Northeast Ohio Goldwing Club and zig zagged all across the country on their bike and camping. They also enjoyed canoeing at Cook’s Forest on the Clarion River.
Bruce was a jack-of-all-trades. He was the type of guy that would rather build something than buy it. He was always tinkering with projects around the house, and helped to build his daughter’s home. Bruce liked to watch the Hallmark Channel and Star Trek. He took great pride in his ornamental koi pond, but most of all, cherished being a Grandfather.
Bruce is survived by his children: Deborah (Bryan) Watson and Bryan (Sheila) Hastings, his grandchildren: Marcus (Lauren) Watson, Lucus Watson, Brianna Hastings, and Cody Hastings, as well as his sister Judy (Nelson) Boss.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Janet Hastings.
His wishes for cremation are being honored and he will be laid to rest with his wife on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Edinburg Cemetery.
Bruce’s family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care given to him throughout his illness. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com
