

Catherine H. Dix, age 95 of Ravenna, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, while residing at Altercare of Brimfield.
She was born December 19, 1921, in Lordstown, Ohio, to parents Abram and Edith Hoffman. Catherine had a strong, loving marriage to Melvin Dix for 57 years. When Mel came down with polio in 1951 she devoted her life to supporting and caring for him.
Catherine was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ravenna and participated in Miriam Circle and Sunday School. She was a member of the Beebe Rebekah Lodge #405 since 1947. Catherine served as Ohio Rebekah Assembly President in 1985, President of the Department Association of Ohio in 1977, and Grand Matriarch of Grand LEA in 1993. She had the honor of placing the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C. in 1984. Catherine also served as a Cinderella Theta Rho Advisor for 15 years.
She loved her flowers and garden, sewing, knitting, crocheting, bluebirds, backyard picnics, and traveling. Time spent with her family was most precious to her. She fit and fed an amazing number of people into her small house on holidays.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Melvin C. Dix, her brother John Hoffman, and her son-in-law James Eckert.
Catherine is survived by her three children: Virginia (Paul) Beaudry of Kent, Janet Eckert of Ravenna, and Martin (Rebecca) Dix of Ravenna, grandchildren: Jennifer (Christina) Eckert, Judy (Adam) Hughes, Matt (Lauren) Dix, James (Shawn Lucus) Eckert, Maria (Jimmy) McNutt, as well as her sister Virginia Garey of Warren. She was also the proud great-grandmother of eleven.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, with Beebe Rebekah Services beginning at 6:30 PM. Friends will also be received on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM with Reverend Gary Carlson and Pastor Jimmy McNutt officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
