David Holmes Rogers Sr.

He was born April 29, 1936, in Toronto, Ohio, to parents Herman A. and Leona A. (Morrow) Rogers. Herman passed away at a young age and David quit school to help take care of his family. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Dave was proud to have earned his GED in 1995 through Maplewood Joint Vocational School.

Dave was a proud member of the NRA and the American Legion. He worked in the maintenance department at Oak Rubber for many years, even taking care of the building after the business closed. Dave helped develop the machine that made the cuff ring for the surgical rubber gloves made there. Dave had an analytical mind. He could fix anything and was always just a phone call away if someone needed help.

He loved the outdoors. Dave found great satisfaction in mowing and maintaining his lawn. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, but continued fishing throughout his life. Dave shared his love of fishing with his children. He could often be found fishing at West Branch, Yellow Creek, or the Ohio River.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife Sheila (Whan) Rogers, who he married November 9, 1963. He is also survived by his children: David (Laura Myers) Rogers Jr., Deanna (Mike Tackett) Rogers, and Tricia (Robert) Knapp, as well as his grandchildren: Christopher Jones, Joseph Rogers, Alexander Prpich, and Elizabeth Prpich, his great-grandchildren: Rylee Jones and Ares Prpich, his brother Dale (Dorothy) Rogers, and his dear friend Ken Neiss.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Donald, Myra, Bertha, and Alice.

His wishes for cremation are being honored. Friends and family will be received Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM with a memorial service at 6:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna.
