

He was born November 12, 1927, in Medina, Ohio, to parents William and Genevieve (Thomas) Dearth. Fred was retired from farming after over 50 years, many of them alongside his wife Bernie, the love of his life, at their farm “Hard Time Acres”. Fred also spent many years as a carpenter, owning and operating Fred R. Dearth Builders. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany during WWII and was a member of the Palmyra United Methodist Church, Charity Lodge #530 and Order of the Eastern Star-Palmy Chapter. Fred enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, hunting and “swapping lies” with his friends. He was known for his Bluebird houses. He liked taking fishing trips to Vermont. Fred took special pride in his beagles over the years and was a member of the Portage County Beagle Club and Mahoning County Beagle Club.
He is survived by his children: Gary (Sue) Dearth, Paul Dearth, Frederick Dearth Jr., Linda (Mickey) Williams, and Carl Dearth; and step-children: Cindy (Dexter) Le-Mon, Claudia (Robert) Lewis, and James Brogan. Fred’s memory will be cherished by his 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his siblings: William Dearth, Doreen Wachter, and Phyllis (O.C.) Brown.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 43 years, Bernadine “Bernie” Dearth, and his sister Mildred Dougherty.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. The funeral service will be officiated by his grandson, Pastor Joseph Le-Mon and Pastor Donald Booth at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 20th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in Palmyra Township.
