

Gary was born in Wayne, Michigan, to parents George R. and Kathryn R. (Terrill) in Ravenna, Ohio on February 17, 1948. Gary was six years old when he moved to Ravenna. Gary graduated from Ravenna High School with the class of 1966 then was drafted by the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon returning from Germany, he attended the University of Akron on the GI Bill. Gary had many different careers over his lifetime and retired from Lowes.
Gary enjoyed drag racing and working on his cars. He owned two 1955 Chevy’s. He liked to play tennis in local leagues and was an avid and passionate golfer. Gary was also a collector of large, superhero figurines. He had a great talent in artistry, using paint and colored pencils. Many of his paintings are throughout the house.
He loved going out to eat with his wife, spending quality time with her. Most importantly, Gary loved his family and enjoyed time spent with them.
Gary is survived by his wife of nine years, Susan J. Armstrong, his daughter Hayley (Cody) Heimer and stepsons David Antos and Eric Antos. Surviving also are his beloved four grandchildren, his sister Ellen Armstrong and sister-in-law Claudia Armstrong. He also leaves his nephews Chris (Ellie) Armstrong and Adam (Brittany) Armstrong, great-nephews Malcom and Brandon Armstrong and great-nieces Simone Armstrong, Paige, Hayleda, Molly and Lila Armstrong. Gary will also be sadly missed by his golf buddies Doug, Butch, Don and Larry.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Roger and Warren Armstrong.
A memorial service, officiated by Pastor David Ballert, will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, beginning at 11am, with a Celebration of Life and Reception to follow.
