Herb was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 11, 1951 to parents Harry James Sovey of Midland, Ontario, Canada and O. Leone (Wolfe) Sovey of Cleveland, Ohio. Herb graduated from Solon High School. He married the love of his life Robeana Bradfordt on August 23, 1997. He had a long career as a baker, first at Kroger then retired from Schwebel Co. after more than 30 years of service. Herb loved fishing, muzzleloader and black powder guns, any kind of knives, old cars, gardening and mowing the lawn. His favorite saying was “don’t touch that thermostat!” Herb was a generous man and would help anyone who needed it.
Herb is survived by his wife Robeana B. (Bradfordt) Sovey, his sister Dianne Sovey Hager and his brother Donald C. Sovey. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Elaine “Laney” Bradfordt and Gwen Dickerson. He was a loving guardian to Anthony “Bear” Simmons, and uncle to Tammy Hager, Robin Hager, Todd (Alicia Heckert) Hager, Marty Davis, Sam (Leslie) Dickerson, Mykel Davis, Shirley Bradfordt and Lee Bradfordt. Herb was a special great-uncle to Naysha, Adia, Tatiana, Kaden, Tayah, Torrence, Maksim, Amaya, Mykel II, Isaiah, Shanay and great-great uncle to Niylah, Nevaeh and Naomi and many other friends and family survive him who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law John Hager and Ealie Bradfordt.
Friends will be received on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, from 11:00AM until the memorial service, officiated by Chaplain William Wisniewski, beginning at 12:00PM. Inurnment at Roselawn Cemetery in Solon will be held at a later date.
