James Earl (Buzz) Farquhar, 87, died May 19, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 19, 1938, at home in Kent, Ohio to parents: Wallace Snowden and Vera Alice (Pinkerton) Farquhar.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Eleanor (Corky) Hoff, his daughters, Randi Lee Farquhar and Robin Janae (Ryan Gbur) Farquhar, as well as grandsons Ian Joseph Gbur and Alex James Gbur, all of Ravenna. He also leaves behind many dear friends and his much-loved fur babies, cats: Peek-a-boo, Jack, CeCe, and Scooter.
Buzz grew up in Kent, Ohio and graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1956. He was a member of the Ohio Air Force National Guard. Following this, he worked for W.T. Grants, dressing the windows and doing shipping & receiving. It was there that he met Corky, his wife of 65 years, whom he married on March 4, 1961. He retired from Kent State University as a military ROTC property custodian, having previously worked in the grounds department.
Buzz and Corky lived in Brimfield before moving to their house in Ravenna, Ohio, which he designed and built in 1976. He was a jack of all trades: an excellent carpenter, gardener, and mechanic. He built furniture and spent countless hours restoring his 1972 Chevy pickup truck and was often found working in the yard. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and making yearly trips to Rice Lake in Ontario, Canada. He was an avid bowler, bowling in several men's leagues, mixed leagues, and tournaments. On vacations, bowling equipment was always packed.
He enjoyed taking his daughters boating, tubing, and having weekly dinners at Pizza Hut with their friends. He also loved milkshakes, ice skating, stockcar races, the Pittsburgh Steelers, miniature golf, and playing cards: Euchre, Poker and a mean game of UNO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Wallace, and his infant sons, Terry James and Eric Vernon.
Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 4:30 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Ravenna 1st Church of the Nazarene, 3284 Brady Lake Rd, Ravenna, OH 44266.
