He was born January 2, 1941, in Salem, Ohio, to parents Robert “Ray” and June (Parshall) Briggs. Ray graduated from Atwater High School in 1959, and went on to a long career as a lineman for Ohio Edison.
Ray was a jack-of-all-trades with many different interests in life. He was a champion muzzleloader shooter. He still holds a match record since 1978. Ray was a private pilot and a speedskater. He enjoyed traveling with seven trips to Hawaii and numerous trips out west to work on cattle ranches as a cowboy. Horses were always special to Ray. He bred, raised, and trained horses. He also enjoyed leading campers on overnight trail rides.
Ray is survived by his children: Bryan (Karen) Briggs, Robyn (Todd) Godfrey, Charlene Briggs, and Raymond “Doug” (Melanie) Briggs, grandchildren: James “Logan” Briggs, Brannon Briggs, Brandi Smith, Leeann Currey, Gavin Briggs, Grady Briggs, and Elise Briggs, as well as his great-grandchildren: Allison Smith, Jaxson Smith, Memphis Currey, Piper Currey, Temperance Briggs, Civic Kelley, and Winslet Kelley, and his siblings: Ron Briggs, Mike Briggs, and Lori Briggs.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his son James “Jimmy” Briggs, his granddaughters Sara Godfrey and Raylene Briggs, and his brothers Bob and Gary Briggs.
“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intentions of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, WOW! What a Ride!”---This was Raymond A. Briggs
