He was born April 8, 1945, in Ravenna, Ohio, to parents Frank J. and Hazel G. (Goodman) Lynn. Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Hazel Lynn, granddaughter Taylor Ann Lynn, grandson Preston Scott Lynn, longtime companion Patricia Crooks.
He is survived by his brother Earl Lynn of Deerfield, Florida, his daughter Lisa Lynn, Mike and Barb Lynn, Scott and Tiffany Lynn all of Atwater, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan Mateja, Robbie Taylor, Rebecca Taylor, Logan Lynn, Lauren Lynn, Kayla Lynn, Kamryn Lynn, and great-grandchildren Andrew Taylor and Olivia Taylor. He will be missed by his devoted dog Fluffy. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and very close cousins.
He graduated in 1963 from Atwater High School. After high school he started a career in the building industry. Rich was truly a Master Craftsmen in the building industry and demanded perfection in everything he did in life. He built many custom homes in Portage, Summit and Stark Counties as a builder. He also worked for Pat and Peggy Ailes at Ailes Custom Millwork for many years, and Paul Willmott Construction, building and creating many custom projects.
After retiring he loved helping his sons in their construction businesses and farming. He looked forward to and loved spending the winter months with his brother Earl in Florida each year after he retired. He loved spending time with his kids, and grandkids, watching his kids compete in sports, and 4H Livestock competitions at the Portage County Randolph Fair.
Our father was a perfectionist from his building and woodworking craftsmanship to his landscaping, his tools placed away in the correct spot each time they would be taken out of his truck, to washing and cleaning his truck. When he would be remodeling in someone’s house each night he would clean up that house better then when he would arrive there each morning.
He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He enjoyed riding 4-wheelers and camping with Pat at their beautiful campsite for many years at Cutty’s. He worked very hard and liked to play hard. He prepared Mike, Scott and Lisa to compete in this world, the meaning of hard work, doing things right the 1st time, and don’t forget to have fun while doing all of this. He loved life, his family, his friends, and his dog fluffy dearly.
My dad was always there for family and friends if they ever needed anything. He would help many people in the community from taking them to doctor’s visits, taking them for groceries, or just mowing their yards. In the end that was returned to my father from all of his great friends and neighbors in the community from taking him to Dr.’s visits, to bringing him food, or just coming and visiting with him. Our family thanks each and everyone one of his friends that were able to help our father during this time.
Today we have lost a father, brother, grandfather and a great human being. We thank you for everything you have done for us and taught us over the years. You made this a better world to live in while you were here. Thanks for all the memories. The family would like to thank the staff at Akron City Hospital ICU & Palliative Care for their excellent care of our father and their compassion for him and his family. Also would like to thank Lori Miller Gregory for all of her help and going above the call of duty in helping my father especially when he was being ornery.
Friends and family will be received Friday, March 16, 2018, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service officiated by Pastor William Nicewarner at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit, Ohio.
