He was born December 16, 1918, in East Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Henry and Anna (Rittwage) Fathauer.
Robert Fathauer served his country first by joining the 3 CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) when he was 16. Later he served his country in WW II. Shortly after the war ended, he met his beloved wife Mary, they were married 6 weeks later. They bought a home in Mantua Ohio where they raised their family. After years of hard work at Pesco Products and Samuel Moore he happily retired.
Dad loved traveling with Mom. They visited all 50 states (49 by car), one was a trip to Alaska in a pup tent in their 60’s. We have many memories of family vacations in later years. Their love of travel inspired us to continue this family tradition.
Dad was a woodworker and loved to create helpful items. Most of his family and friends have many of his creations from step stools, folding tables, campfire tongs, toaster tongs, etc. He enjoyed sharing his “toaster tongs” with everyone he met.
Dad loved to show others his shop and the dozens of innovations he painstakingly crafted. He wanted to inspire others to take up this fantastic hobby. Dad was an inspirational mentor and a hard-working, passionate example of American know how.
Robert is survived by his children: Sharon (Carl) Ebie of Brimfield, Christine (Mark) Lignoul of Dallas TX, and Robert A. (Rose) Fathauer of Mantua, as well as all of his loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Cecelia Fathauer in 2009, as well as his parents and his siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 11045 St. Joseph Blvd., Mantua, OH 44255.
He had a beautiful smile for everyone he met. Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with his presence.
