

Ron was born February 2, 1932 in Ravenna, OH to the late Virgil and Gladys (Spencer) Hartley. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1950 and in 1954 from Kent State University with a B.S. in Business Administration. Ron received a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Army R.O.T.C. at Kent State and served two years active duty with a year and a half in Wildflecken, Germany. After his discharge from the Army, he joined the Ohio National Guard where he was promoted to the rank of Captain. Ron, a C.P.A., owned and operated Hartley Accounting and Tax Service for 35 years in Ravenna. He also served 23 years as Clerk-Treasurer for Ravenna Township and 6 years as Finance Director for the City of Ravenna.
Ron was very active in the community over the years. He was co-president, with his wife, of Carlin (Highland) School P.T.A., co-president of Ravenna High School Band Patrons, was active in Ravenna A.F.S., served as president of Ravenna Rotary, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and presided over various committees in the Ravenna First United Methodist Church. Upon retirement Ron moved with his wife Jean to Centerville in November 2000. The Hartleys remained members of the Ravenna First United Methodist Church while becoming affiliate members of Normandy U.M.C. in Centerville. Both Hartleys were members of the University of Dayton New Horizons Music Program.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Ann, son David Hartley of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, daughter Linda Hartley of Centerville, granddaughter Johanna Hartley, Centerville, sister Violet (Hartley) Misner, Bridgeville, PA, and five nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra (Hartley) Carroll and a niece.
Visitation will be at Routsong Funeral Home, Kettering, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Visitation will also take place at Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 7, 2016 with a visitation one hour prior at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Ravenna. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Ravenna.
