

Walter was born February 11, 1911, in Palmyra, Ohio, to parents Ella (Davis) and John Head. He resided his entire life in Palmyra with his wife of 69 years, Irma Sampson Head.
Walter graduated from Deerfield High School and Lincoln Electric and Welding School in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the floor manager at Milton Roller Rink in Lake Milton, Ohio. Walter and his wife Irma did a roller-skating act called “Fun on Wheels”, along with sisters-in-law Ruth and Frances Sampson performing on unicycles. The group performed for 25 years at county fairs, lodges, night clubs, and Christmas parties.
Walter retired from Youngstown Welding at the age of 70. He was a fulltime farmer, active in horse 4-H with his daughter, Jane. He was a member of the Central Ohio Saddle Club Association for many years showing Appaloosa Horses. Walter was a Master Mason, and member of Charity Lodge #530.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Irma Head, daughter Ella Jane Heavner, son-in-law Steven Heavner, granddaughter Kimberly Heavner, great-granddaughter Taylor Jones, great-grandson Brian Andrick, and great-great-grandson Noah Rose, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends will be received Wednesday, June 3, 2015, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where funeral services will be officiated by Fr. Joseph L. Martin, PhD, on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at West Cemetery in Palmyra Township.
