Born in Streetsboro, the only child of Wesley and Marie Kernen, he lived most of his life in Ravenna. He married Doris Gray in 1947 and together they raised two fine sons. He worked in budget administration for Goodyear Aerospace, retiring in 1983. A World War II veteran, he was stationed in Europe with the 99th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He loved Big Band music and had many fond memories of hearing the great bands that toured the country, making stops in places like Akron and Brady Lake. Among Bill’s greatest pleasures were the family vacations he planned each summer, traveling around the country or to Canada with Doris and the boys, taking countless pictures along the way. He was a past member of the Ravenna Boat Club and enjoyed many fishing and boating outings with his friends and family over the years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. A man of quiet integrity, Bill never wanted anything more out of life than exactly what he had.
He is survived by sons Bill (Tami) and Bob (Margo), granddaughter Erin, special friend Dorothy Meyer, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. We are all better people for having known him.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Doris.
