William C. Lillich, born June 28, 1947, in Wilkinsburg, PA, died January 29, 2025, after a struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was the son of William and Ruth Lillich and brother to sisters, Janet Stivanson and Susan Aber.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Johnna Lillich, his sons Steve (Krissie) Lillich, Dave (Joanne) Lillich and Eric (Kelly) Gordon, as well as grandchildren Andrew, Luke, Serina, Emily, and Brianna.
Bill was a graduate of Kent State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He began his career as a police officer for the City of Kent in 1970, rose through the ranks to Chief of Police, and retired as Safety Director on July 14, 2013—marking exactly 44 years in service to the city.
He enjoyed woodworking, playing ball with his former college pals (aka Choppers), and reserving Saturday mornings for coffee and donuts with the kids and grandkids. He demonstrated patience and compassion with everyone he knew—family, friends, fellow officers, and teammates.
After retirement, Bill and Johnna moved to Venice, Florida, where they spent a decade as active members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, making new friends, and enjoying the warmer climate. And because he couldn’t quit baseball or safety, Bill worked security for the Tampa Bay spring training games.
A memorial will be held at Kent United Church of Christ, 1400 E. Main St., Kent, OH, on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Amy Gopp presiding, then a reception in Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kent United Church of Christ or the Alzheimer’s Association.
