

Sister Helen Denise Somers, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur, died on March 10, 2013, at the age of 86 in the 69th year of her religious life. She was born on October 25, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio. Sister Helen Denise is preceded in death by her parents John J. Somers and Clara Anna (Hodapp) Somers. Her passing is mourned by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, her sister Mary Ellen Andrew, brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Joan Somers, sister-in-law Dorothy Somers, many devoted nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins and many friends.
Sister Helen Denise entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur on August 14, 1944, made her first profession of vows on January 18, 1947, and her final profession of vows on August 13, 1952. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Dayton.
Sister Helen Denise taught in Sts. Peter and Paul School in Reading, Ohio, St. Stephen School in Hamilton, Ohio, St. Peter Canisius School in Chicago, IL, Summit Country Day School in Cincinnati, Holy Angels, St. James, St. Helen, and St. Agnes Schools in Dayton, OH, and Most Holy Trinity in Phoenix, AZ. Sister Helen Denise was principal at St. Michael School in Sharonville, Ohio. She was the Director of Montessori Matters for many years. Sister worked in community service at. Mt. Notre Dame and retired to the ministry of prayer in 2004.
The visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, from 1:00-2:45 at Mount Notre Dame Health Center, 699 E. Columbia Avenue, Cincinnati (513-821-7448), followed by the Mass of Christian burial and interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Retirement Fund of the Sisters of Notre Dame, 701 E. Columbia Avenue, Cincinnati OH 45215.
