Alverias (Chess) Price, 87 passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the home of her daughter in Coconut Creek, Florida. Born in Marion, South Carolina, on July 31, 1935 she was a daughter to the late Herbert Chess Sr. and Emma L. (Mitchell) Chess-Mayes.
Alverias worked at several places throughout her career as a Certified Nurses Assistant; retiring from Berks Heim Nursing Home, after 18 years of dedicated service. At times you would see her alongside of her husband, the late Percy Price Sr. at his hot dog stand on the corner of 3rd and Penn Street in Reading, PA. It gave them immense joy serving their community.
Alverias was a proud Deaconess and faithful member of Zion Baptist Church of Reading.
Alverias' spirit will be carried on by her 5 beloved adult children Elbert R.K. Price, of Temple, PA, Percy Price Jr., of West Palm Beach, FL, Herman Price, of Greenacres, FL, Lynn Knotts, of Bensalem, PA, and Tracy Calarco, of Coconut Creek, FL. She also leaves behind a sister Mae Hazel Wansley-Williams; 8 grandchildren Kamecia Price, Nicole Price, Brandon Knotts, Aaron Knotts, Timberly Price, Gabriella Hall Price, Isabella Hall Price, Tyleaha Price; 6 great grandchildren Charnaysha Eaddy, Khalil Eaddy, lyana Price, Analee Cortes, Elijah Price Hollenbach, Gianna Zupancic and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents, Alverias was greeted in heaven by her husband, Percy Price Sr., sister Catherine Atwater, brother Herbert Chess Jr., niece Leslie Davis and nephews Louis Atwater and Michael Chess.
A viewing for Alverias will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Zion Baptist Church, 224 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601. Homegoing service will promptly commence in the church at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Bruce N. Alick officiating. Graveside Committal will immediately follow at Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
