Betty J. (Werstler) Greenwood, 92, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born February 20, 1933, in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, to the late Charles R. Werstler, Sr. and Anna M. (Yergey) Werstler, she grew up in Ticonderoga, New York, and Pottstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Pottstown High School, where her early interests included music and singing.
After raising a family in Exeter Township (Reading), PA, she worked for many years for the Exeter Township School District, eventually retiring as Secretary to the Superintendent. Following her retirement, she also lived in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where she briefly worked in the office of Dr. Elizabeth Bell, before eventually relocating to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
She is survived by two sons, Glenn D. Christman and Mark E. Christman; a granddaughter, Rebecca M. Christman; a step-granddaughter, Amber (Aden) Christman; a niece and nephew, Barbara Rakowski and William (Bill) Werstler, and their families; and her partner of many years, Leroy H. Schultz.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her first husband, Glenn M. Christman, who died in 1987; her second husband, Warren A. Greenwood, who died in 2000; her sisters, Jeanne DeAngelo, Elaine Rosenson, and Anne Werstler; and her brother, Charles Werstler, Jr.
Betty enjoyed spending time with family, reading, traveling, horseback riding, grocery shopping and cooking, playing solitaire, and going on adventures with Leroy, including sailing trips to the Bahamas in her 70s and helicopter rides in upstate New York.
A viewing for Betty will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Auman’s Inc., 390 W. Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606. A graveside committal service, officiated by Pastor Bruce Osterhout, will immediately follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Reiffton.
