Carolyn Coburn Auman, a resident of The Highlands at Wyomissing, passed away on February 9th, 2026. Born April 14, 1936, in West Reading, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Mary Louise Coburn and F. Ward Coburn, Jr., and the older sister of Jocelyn Coburn Whitmoyer.
Carolyn grew up in Wyomissing, graduated from Wyomissing High School, and married the boy next door. She shared 50 years of marriage with her husband, Theodore C. Auman III, and together they raised two children: her son, Theodore Ward Auman, husband of Christine McGlinn Auman, of Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania; and her daughter, Cynthia Auman King, wife of the late David W. King, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She was intensely proud of her grandchildren, Theodore Ward Auman Jr., Terrence Carter Auman, and Margaret Elizabeth Auman, and was also a beloved aunt to her niece and nephews.
She continued her education with an arts focus at Connecticut College for Women and went on to graduate from the Tobé Coburn School for Fashion Retailing. In later years, she earned her real estate certification and stepped into a leadership role in her husband’s business, Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Carolyn’s commitment to her community was wide-ranging. She served as President of the St. Joseph Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, as Treasurer of the Junior League, and as part of the first docent program at the Reading Public Museum. A lifelong member of Atonement Lutheran Church, she served as Co-Chairman of the Building Committee and as a member of Church Council. She also delighted in participating in the Minerva Forum, drawn to the group’s shared spirit of intellectual curiosity.
She was an artist, an art collector, and an appreciator of the arts. A true lover of words, she often sent friends back to the dictionary. Carolyn treasured her long-standing friendships, was an avid tennis player and a skier. She loved traveling with her husband, including years spent together in Naples, Florida, as well as cruising to countries around the world. Sparked by trips to Paris, she took great pleasure in learning the French language.
In her later years, Carolyn especially appreciated her companionship with Donald Marvel and the steadfast support of care provider Elizabeth Stewart. She also held a special place in her heart for her beloved feline companions.
Carolyn Coburn Auman will be remembered for her animated presence, her resiliency and strong will, and her caring and devotion to family and friends.
A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date. Theo C Auman Funeral Home, Reading is honored to serve the family. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.theocauman.com for the Auman family.
