Carrol Larene Murphy, passed away peacefully on July 14th 2023, at the age of 80. Carrol was born in St. Peter, Barbados-West Indies, on September 11th, 1942. She later moved to London, England where she earned her RN degree and gave birth to her two surviving sons; Andrew Lavine, of Reading and Roger Lavine, of Douglassville.
Carrol immigrated to the United States in 1975 and worked at Community General Hospital, for over 30 years. Carrol was a natural caretaker, had a strong moral compass, was fiercely independent and had an unshakeable devotion to her faith. She enjoyed reading, cooking traditional “Bajan” meals, catching up with old friends, watching 60 minutes, and seeing her grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband Eldred Lavine, parents John and Irene Murphy, and sisters Violet Griffith and Ottaline Skeete. In addition to her sons, Carrol is survived by Roger’s wife Heather, her grandchildren Jalon and Amelia Lavine; her sister's Monica Knight and Estolita Best; nieces and nephews Tony Knight, Gay and Andrea Griffith, Valrita Murphy, and Haniff and Jelko Skeete. She was the sister-in-law of Seymour Knight, Levere Skeete, the late Eustace Griffith, and the late Keith Best.
Carrol always lived life in the moment and accepted things as they came. She was humble, practical, and veracious with a great sense of humor, and fiercely independent. She gave great advice but never told you what you should do. Carrol was deeply loved and will be missed.
A viewing for Carrol will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM, with Rev. Dr. Robert Aregood officiating.
