Cheryl Louise Care, 68, of Bern Township, entered eternal rest on November 29, 2025, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Born in Reading, PA on July 27, 1957, she was a daughter of the late George Engle and Mildred (Schell) Engel.
Cheryl earned her BS in Education from Millersville University and began her career as a preschool teacher at Edgewood Elementary School in Maryland. She later worked as an aide and paraprofessional with Autistic children for the Wilson School District, pouring patience, love, and kindness into every child she cared for. In time, she stepped away from work to take on a role she cherished most deeply, caring for her grandchildren.
She was a member of One United Church of Christ in Kenhorst.
Cheryl lived a life filled with simple joys and heartfelt passions. She loved her mystery-romance novels, her TV lineup (including SVU, Hallmark, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune), and putting her toes in the sand at her favorite places such as Myrtle Beach, Wildwood, and Ocean City, MD. She also cherished Disney trips, afternoons at the pool, and any moment spent spoiling her grandchildren.
Her love extended to food and music in the most delightful ways. Cheryl adored ice cream, especially Kohr Bros (Vanilla/Orange Sherbet) at the beach, along with her other favorite flavors chocolate marshmallow and black cherry. She also had a deep love for spaghetti and all kinds of noodles, as well as corn in any form, especially dried corn and corn on the cob. Christmas music always lifted her spirits, and she often listened to her favorite artists: Rod Stewart, Elton John, and Billy Joel.
Cheryl had a tender heart for animals. Her puppies and cats were true companions to her, and she loved them dearly.
She will be fondly remembered as a thoughtful, caring, loving, easygoing, forgiving and compassionate woman. She always made you feel loved.
Cheryl’s memory will be treasured by her husband of 45 years, Robert “Bob” A. Care; her daughter, Lauren M. Care; and her son, Bradley J. Care, along with his wife, Alison. She was a proud grandmother to Nicolas, Blake, and Ellie. She is also survived by her sisters, Georgine Linderman (Dale) and Judith Spencer; her brother, Richard Engle; and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
