Donald R. Kauffman Sr.

Donald R. "Sonny" Kauffman Sr., 83, of Leesport, passed away peacefully at Rittenhouse Senior Living in Reading on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy J. (Donley) Kauffman, who preceded him in death in 1991.

Sonny was born in Reading on September 15, 1929; he was a son of the late Ray and Blanche (VanPelt) Kauffman. He was a Reading High School graduate.

He was employed with the Eagle Distributing Co. for many years as a truck driver until he retired. He was a member of Teamsters Local 429. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time on the Delaware Bay. His unique sense of humor will be sadly missed.

Sonny is survived by a stepson, Rodney E. Rightmyer, and his wife, Jan L. Hahn-Rightmyer, of Hyde Park; a son, Donald R. Kauffman Jr. of Alburtis; a daughter, Donna M. (Kauffman) Rolles of Florida. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Shollenberger of Wyomissing and Elizabeth Wertz of Shillington. Sonny was predeceased by a sister, Jane Daubert.

Sonny's family expresses gratitude for the caring services provided by the staff at Rittenhouse Senior Living during his residence there during the last 5 years.

Services for Sonny are private and at the convenience of the family.
