

Juanita L. (Marable) Laney Hightower, 83, of Reading, formerly of Pottstown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in Kutztown Manor. She was the wife of the late Leonard “Lenny” Hightower.
Born in Birmingham, AL on May 20, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Alfonso Marable, Sr. and Daisy (Hardwick) Marable Griggs. She was a former member of Bethel AME in Pottstown and Morning Star Church in Bechtelsville. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Elks in Pottstown.
Juanita was first employed at the former Memorial Hospital in Pottstown as an LPN in Maternity for over ten years. Later she was employed with Jones Motors as a dispatcher for over ten years before retiring with Smith Kline Beecham as an administrative manager for over 15 years.
Juanita loved music and played piano for her church. She was a singer with the Silver Stars and was a back-up singer for Peter, Paul and Mary and Ramsey Lewis. Juanita was known as an explorer that lived life to the fullest and loved helping others. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, entertaining and even babysitting.
Left behind to cherish Juanita’s memory are three children: Newstell “Chuck” Laney, Sr of Virginia Beach, VA, David Jerome Laney and his wife, Aldine of Egg Harbor Twp., NJ and Jocelyn “Joi” Louise (Laney) Randolph of Reading; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Also surviving are her siblings: Sylvester Lee Marable, Sr and his wife, Rebecca of Birmingham, Al and Margaret Ann (Marable) Seltmann and her husband, Barton of Pottstown and a niece, Millicent Ann Frye of Chestnut Hill and many nieces and nephews of the extended family.
In addition to her husband, Lenny; Juanita is predeceased by a son, Daniel Webster Laney, Jr.; son-in-law, Jarvis Roderick Randolph and three brothers: Alfonso Marable, Jr., Henry Edward Marable, Sr and Newstell Marable Sr.
Home Going services for Juanita will be at 12pm on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Theo C. Auman Funeral Home, 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. Family and friends will be received in the funeral home from 11am to 12pm. Juanita will be inurned in Limerick Garden of Memories, Limerick at a later date.
