Born in Reading on November 1st, 1948, Karon was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Dorothy Gromis.
She attended Conrad Weiser High School. She spent time working at Ben’s Cafe that was owned by her parents in Womelsdorf, Gloray Knitting Mills of Robesonia, and finally, she spent many years serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Berks Heim up until her retirement.
Whether you knew her as Karon, “Chopper”, Mom, or Nana one thing remained true, she was the best of the best. She lived her life to fullest and brought so much joy to those around her. Through any hardship she remained strong and resilient, qualities she generously shared with her children and grandchildren. Whenever anyone in the family needed her, she was there with an open door, a free chair and a fresh pot of coffee. Some of her greatest joys included horses, fishing, camping, and dancing but mostly she enjoyed being with her family. Every holiday you could find us all there gathered in her home while she hosted with amazing food, especially the turkey and potato filling, and she would bask in the joy of family and take pictures, lots and lots of pictures. No matter who you were she made you feel welcomed and loved and you’d never leave without her giving you a warm hug. Her family will always remember those as the best hugs.
Karon will be deeply missed by her sister Patricia Yeingst wife of Greg. 2 daughters Evonne Schlott and Roxanne Bowen. 3 granddaughters Natasha Matz, wife of Tony. Jamie Reber fiancé of T.J Gaston Elizabeth Berger wife of Troy. One grandson Michael Stenavage and 5 great grandchildren Lily, Hailey, William, Ezio, and Kylie. She is also survived by nieces and nephews David, Kelly, and Lorrie Liebig, Carrie, John, and Jennifer Gromis, and Kim and Jim Yeingst.
She was predeceased by her loving husband William Purnell, her brother Carl Gromis and sister Jane Keeney and one great grandson, Alex. Auman's Inc Funeral Home, Reiffton is honored to be serving the family. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.aumansinc.com for the Purnell family.
