Richard P. Heffner, 93, of West Lawn, passed away on January 25, 2023. Born in Reading, PA on July 23, 1929, he was a son to the late Charles M. and Laura M. (Peters) Heffner. He was a devoted son, husband, father, and friend.
Richard proudly served in the U.S Army during the Korean conflict, until his honorable discharge in 1951. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked as a warehouse worker with B&J Saylor Food Corp. for 45 years, until his retirement in 1986. Richard was a leading expert on postal stationary. At one time, he had one of the best private collections of aerogrammes and postal stationary in the world.
Richard is survived by his son Charles R. Heffner (husband of Jennifer), of Columbia, MD; daughter Phyllis Heffner (wife of William Toole), of Woodbine, MD & grandchildren Sarah and Samantha Heffner and Lauren and Colin Toole. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife Helene (Lengel) Heffner; 2 sisters Elizabeth Parise & Louise Randazzo; stepbrother Jacob Heffner & 2 stepsisters Helen Doswall & Mabel Forsyth. He is also survived by his longtime sweetheart Phyllis Guldner.
A viewing for Richard will be held Sat., February 11, 2023, from 10AM to 12 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading. Funeral service will commence in the funeral home at 12PM, with Pastor John Letterman officiating. Graveside committal will immediately follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, 1060 South St., Reading.
