My Granny was my person.  She was the one I went to when no one else understood.  She was the very first one to hold me as a baby.  We always had a very special relationship.  She picked me up from school every day and we would walk to her apartment on Buttonwood Street where I would stay for hours until my parents could pick me up. This was for years and it was the best!  I loved it.  She spoiled me and we would laugh and joke about little things that were special just between us.  She never yelled at, or judged me.  Never.  One particularly memorable moment was at my college graduation, (she was 72 at the time) and she left to go to the bathroom in one of the buildings and got a heavy steel door opened right into her face!  She had a trip to the ER as I was graduating and I had no idea until afterward, when I was terrified I would lose her then!  She was fine and was able to joke about it shortly after, but we still talked about it years later!  I am so lucky that I got so many years to spend with her, I would have loved more, but she had to go be with her siblings now.  I’m glad my daughter had the chance to get to know her, and will remember her.  I always felt very loved by Granny, she showed it in any way she could!  She would often call just to “hear your voice” or “say I love you”, sometimes by song.  She loved singing!  I was dreading the day she would leave this world, knowing that at 91, every moment was precious.  I knew when the day came, I would be devastated, as she and I just got each other.   But once Aunt Jeanne passed on 12/25/20, it just was the final blow to her suddenly changing life (moving, quit smoking and now losing her last sibling) and I think I would have felt the same way.  She was an extremely strong woman, had hard times but always handled it with grace and dignity!  I don’t know how she just let things roll off her back, In that way we are different.  She was truly the best grandmother to me.  I love you Granny.
