Therman John Rothermel, 80, of Reading, PA entered eternal rest on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Mifflin Center. Born in Reading, PA on March 3, 1944, he was a son to the late Louella (Rothermel) Amos. In addition to his mother, Therman was preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara A. (Brigle) Rothermel; who passed away on March 15, 2011.
Therman dedicated much of his career to working as a supervisor at Interstate Containers. In addition to his full-time job, he spent many years bartending part-time, where his welcoming spirit endeared him to countless patrons.
Therman enjoyed gardening, particularly vegetables, earning him the nickname "The Vegetable Man" in his neighborhood. Every season, he shared his abundant harvest with his neighbors, spreading the fruits of his labor and fostering a sense of community. A lifelong supporter of Philadelphia sports, Therman was an avid fan of the Eagles and Phillies. His passion for his favorite teams was infectious, and he treasured every moment spent cheering them on through their wins and losses.
Therman will be fondly remembered as a loving, giving, gentle, and selfless man. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and his gentle nature was a comfort to all who knew him. His presence in the lives of his family, friends, and community will be deeply missed by all blessed enough to have known him.
Therman's spirit will be carried on by his daughter Debra S. Epler and her husband Leonard, of Cumru Township; his sister Cheryl Ann Kochan and her husband Joe, of Florida; and his bonus daughter Brenda Marte and her husband Delphi, of Reading. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren Nasiah, Devin, Kamilah and Makaylieh to cherish his memory.
A viewing for Therman will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Theo C. Auman Inc., 247 Penn St., Reading, PA 19601. Prayer service will promptly commence in the funeral home at 7:30 PM, with Pastor Scott Haakenson officiating. Inurnment will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606.
In honor of Therman's memory and his love for sports, his family requests that those attending his services dress casually or wear their favorite sports team gear.
