Our precious mom, Allie Henry Cane (Mimi), 99, passed peacefully into heaven on May 31th, 2017. A 100th birthday celebration was planned here on earth, but our Lord had different plans of His own and her birthday will now be celebrated in heaven with loved ones there. Allie was born to James Alexander Reeves and Margaret Evelyn (De Busk) Reeves in Sweetwater, Texas on June 11th, 1917. Allie and her family moved to California when she was three. At the tender age of 16 she married John Haze and her beloved son, Jim Haze was born in 1934.
In 1939 Allie and Willard Henry “Shanks” were married and began their 53 year loving journey together. In addition to Jim, their family grew to include daughters Connie Diane and Susan Kay. In the early 1950’s Allie and Will moved their family to Redding. In 1958, Allie decided to go to college to become a nurse. Though her previous education was limited, she graduated from Shasta College with straight A’s, of which she was very proud, and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Shortly thereafter, Allie and Shanks bought Valley Supply Hardware and she traded in her nursing cap to become the bookkeeper. She was also very involved in her community. She was a lifelong charter member of Soroptomist and Elk’s Emblem Club. She was a member of Little Country Church. Allie loved traveling in their RV and she made the best apple pie in the world; but her greatest joy in life was her family. Her loving husband Willard passed away in 1993. In the year 2008, at the young age of 91, Allie married Bill Cane and they enjoyed eight and half wonderful years together until his recent passing on April 1, 2017.
Her infectious smile and laughter will always define her. She never failed to choose “joy” in life. In fact, a month or so before her passing, when asked about her secret to a long happy life, she said, “always choose joy” and “always forgive”..and she lived it!! Allie saw life through rose colored glasses.
She is survived by daughters Connie (Dennis) Mcclaskey, Susan (George) Clarke, step-children Linda (Ken) Alvarez and Bill Cane, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grand children. In additional to Willard Henry and Bill Cane, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter Susan Elaine Henry and son Jim Haze.
A memorial service will be held at noon on June 16th, 2017, at Lawncrest Chapel, Redding, California. Graveside service and Celebration of Life to follow.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Lavender Hills and Dignity Hospice for the special care given to Allie.
