

Betty graduated from Shasta High School in 1951. She attended Shasta College for bookkeeping courses. During the 50’s, her first job was with the City of Redding as a Switchboard Operator, and then took a position with the Anderson Police Dept as a Dispatcher. In 1962, Betty worked for U.S. Plywood/Champion Int’l in Anderson. By the mid-70’s, she went on to work for Paul Bunyan Lumber Co also in Anderson. During her years at these 2 employers, she had a 2nd job as the Treasurer for the I.W.A Local 3-433 Federal Credit Union, the office was in her home on Pinon Ave. Betty finished her working years at Sierra Pacific Industries in Shasta Lake, CA, as a Shipping Clerk when she retired in 1996.
In 1956, Betty was introduced to Ben Ervin by a co-worker at the City. They were married June 8, 1957 in Reno, NV. They raised 3 children, Becky Capobianco, Michael Ervin and Linda Fullerton, all of Redding, CA. Betty loved to travel, so every chance she got to load up the family to go camping, site-seeing or anything out-of-town was on her agenda. Ben passed away October 1991, after 45 years of marriage.
At this time in her life, she discovered her Yana Native American heritage and began actively participating in the senior events Redding Rancheria provided.
In 1995, Betty was set up on a blind date with William “Dub” Chipley and they were married on March 2, 1996. They enjoyed camping all over Northern Calif and Southern Oregon. After 16 years of marriage William passed away in November 2012.
Betty was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by sisters Cecile (Roger) Blevins and Gail Ravencroft. Her children Becky (Bob), Mike (Janice), Linda, her grandchildren Amanda, Bryan (Robyn), Kaley, James, Shalyn and great grandchild Dane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Copper Ridge Care Facility for her compassionate care these past 3 months. Betty will be laid to rest March 14, 2016, at Lawncrest Memorial Park.
