

Bettye was born on July 21, 1942 in Quincy Florida. She was a native of Gadsden County, and a resident of Redding, California. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 1, 2014.
Bettye was a longtime member of the St. Marks Missionary Baptist Church of Redding. She proudly served as treasurer for the last 10 years. She taught grade school in both Redding, California and Phoenix, Arizona. She also coached youth basketball for many years. Bettye was a beloved member of the community and could frequently be found leading programs and youth functions. She was an integral part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Redding Rotary.
Bettye was preceded in death by her father The Reverend Nathaniel Washington Sr., her mother Effie Washington, her step mother Hazel Washington, Sisters Corinne Palmer, Lillie M. Washington, Brothers Nathaniel Washington Jr. and George Washington.
She is survived by Joseph Lowe of Glendale, Arizona; her 4 sons Tony (Haydee) Lowe, Phoenix, Arizona. Reggie (Anna) Lowe, Phoenix, Arizona, Ken (Joanie) Lowe, Redding, California, and Craig Lowe, Phoenix, Arizona; sisters Natina (James) Jones, Havana, Florida, Juliet (Michael) Dudley, Quincy, Florida, Cynthia Washington, Quincy, Florida, and brother Robert Washington, Quincy, Florida; her sister in law and lifelong friend Margaret Washington, Havana, Florida; her 7 grandchildren Jordan and Kaleb Stevens, Reggie Jr., Joseph, Lillye, Tevan and Keara Lowe; her God Children, their spouses and parents, Jennifer (Sam) Ridolfi, Michelle (Michael) Mast and Jin (Dave) Ridolfi of Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona; and a host of numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
