August 4, 1931 - July 21, 2025
Our heavenly Father has called his angel home. Dorothy Fay (Hays) Campbell passed peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on July 21, 2025. Dorothy was born on August 4, 1931, in McCloud, California to Lewis and Edna “Ruth” Hays. She was an only child and spent her schooling years in Mt. Shasta, Adin and attended St Helen’s Hall in Portland, OR. She attended San Francisco College for Women and then St. Luke’s Hospital for Nursing, and she then worked at St. Luke’s for ten years as a nurse. She married Richard Campbell in San Francisco on August 10, 1955. They had three children, Deborah, Jeanette and Edward, while living in San Francisco.
In 1968 they decided that the rural life would be a better place to raise their children, so they moved their family to Adin, California. There they joined her parents in running the family business of Adin Supply, a general store. They became very involved in the community and Dorothy still enjoyed participating in as many local events as possible. After selling the store in 2004, she and her husband enjoyed going on new adventures with friends and family, including cruises, bus tours and camping trips.
Age seems to get the best of us, and it was no different for Dorothy. With the advent of some minor health issues, she moved into her daughter Jeanette’s home in Redding full-time, where she enjoyed visits from family and friends, short trips for family and Big Valley events. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Richard Campbell. She is survived by her children Debbie (Ron) Rynearson, of Sacramento; Jeanette (Jim) Holcomb of Redding; Edward (Sasha) Campbell of Susanville; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Dorothy was a blessing in the lives of so many, always positive and never stopping to be an inspiration to others. We are thankful for the 94 years God gifted her in our lives.
