

1925 - 2014
Harry E. Barker was a wonderful man! He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, patriot, civic leader, business owner, golfer and so many other titles in his 89 years.
He was born in Kansas City, MO on Monday, January 5, 1925 and died at home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in Redding, CA and in between those two dates he lived his life as a college student at USC, Notre Dame and University of Kansas where he received his BS in marketing. He was an officer in the US Navy aboard the battleship USS Tennessee and battle cruiser Guam during World War II.
His career in broadcasting began in Medford, OR in 1958 at KMED and in 1967 moved to Redding, CA where he took over the operation of KQMS, changing the format to a news, sports, music and "talk radio".
He was always involved in his local community - Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Cancer Society, United Way, Haven Humane Society, Elks Lodge, Redding Medical Center Chairman of the Board, founder and Director of the RMC Foundation. His business involvement included representing the National Association of Broadcasters, representing CA, NV, HI and Guam for four years and Vice Chairman/Director of California Broadcasters Association.
Upon his passing he was husband to Ann, father to Janice (Bob) Rix, Leslie (Tom) Brady, Kimberlee (Carl) Gondolf, stepfather to Barbara Williams and Sue (Nelson) Ford. He also enjoyed his five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Barker (Lawrence) Quinn.
Interment will be at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA with services for the extended family to be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Cemetery or to Haven Humane Society.
